Leading independent television, film and digital production and distribution company All3Media is backing new documentary and drama production company, Story Films it has announced today.
Story Films was founded in 2016 by award-winning filmmakers David Nath and Peter Beard who between them boast an impressive portfolio of highly successful and critically acclaimed credits and a clutch of industry awards. As a combined creative force they will continue to produce bold, distinctive programmes which blur the lines between factual and drama for audiences in the UK, US and around the world.
David Nath is a three-time BAFTA-winning director whose 2015 trilogy, The Murder Detectives, earned him a BAFTA for Best Factual Director along with a BAFTA for Best Factual Series and Grierson award. Nath’s first drama , The Watchman, was shortlisted for Broadcast Best Single Drama 2017 and won critical acclaim as a “terrifying, mesmerising watch” when Channel 4 screened the film last year.
Peter Beard is a BAFTA winning director and producer whose 2015 film My Son the Jihadi has won worldwide acclaim. It won a BAFTA for Best Documentary but was also nominated for both an International Emmy and Grierson Award. Beard has a reputation for producing visually distinctive, thought-provoking documentaries.
The pair, who first worked together 4 years ago on Channel 4’s BAFTA winning mental health series Bedlam, are currently in production with a new C4 drama “infused with a documentary sensibility” and also a blue-chip factual series for the same broadcaster. They are also in development with a number of projects for US networks.
Jane Turton, All3Media Chief Executive Officer said: “To work with Dave and Pete as they build Story FIlms is incredibly exciting. They are programme makers with an amazing record of producing popular and critically acclaimed shows. We are all really looking forward to working with them as they develop new ideas – be they documentaries or dramas.”
Story Films added: “All3 has such a breadth across all genres so it’s a huge attraction to be able to draw on that experience and creative resource, especially in drama. It also has a terrific global reach which is going to be key in helping us realising the ambitions we have for Story Films outside of the UK.”
Story Films plan to work closely with Layla Smith at Objective Media Group as they develop the business, especially in the US.
All3Media International will be the distribution partner for Story Films.
