BBC Arts and Radio 1 have co-commissioned Inside Games from Little Dot Studios. The initial six-part series from the All3Media majority-owned digital content creator and distributor will sit on iPlayer in the UK, and globally across Radio 1’s YouTube channel, and Facebook Watch.
The films cover everything from lust, love and romance in games, storytelling, horror in games, creating authentic characters, the appearance of CG celebrities, and how games bring communities together. They are delivered by some of the most exciting games journalists in the UK including Keza MacDonald, Louise Blain, Elle Osili-Wood, Aoife Wilson and Keith Stuart.
BBC Arts has also renewed short form strand Inside Cinema for 35 more episodes, as series one passes 10m views.
Inside Cinema is a collection of online video essays that tie into a range of the most exciting and relevant contemporary film releases, classic film anniversaries and significant talking points. The episodes, averaging six minutes each, sit across iPlayer, Facebook Watch and Twitter.
The eclectic collection is designed for film fans everywhere. Each episode is authored by an exciting voice in film journalism, including Arts Hour’s Nikki Bedi, Variety’s Jessica Kiang, The Telegraph’s Robbie Collin and Radio 1’s Ali Plumb.
BBC Arts Executive Editor, Lamia Dabboussy says: “Inside Cinema has really struck a chord with audiences – engaging film buffs and movie-lovers alike by making new connections and revealing the stories hidden in the world of movies. At BBC Arts we want to shed light on how films and their stories resonate with all of us, and I’m very excited about what’s coming up in this new run; working together with Little Dot and our cast of excellent storytellers, journalists and critics, we’ve got some lovely surprises in store. And now, with Inside Games, we’re able to really get under the skin of one of the UK’s most creative industries – and one of the world’s most popular pastimes – in a completely new way.”
Dan Jones, Director of Content at Little Dot Studios added: “We love working on Inside Cinema, and the BBC are dream partners on it, so we couldn’t be more excited about expanding the Inside brand to include games. Passing 10m views on Inside Cinema is a real milestone, and shows the desire to consume intelligent, high quality video content on social platforms, and for shorter form to really fly on iPlayer.”
Both series are overseen by Michael Leader and Catherine Bray. The BBC Arts Executive Editor is Lamia Dabboussy and the Radio 1 Commissioning Editor is Stuart Bradfield. Both series are produced within fully Covid-19 secure guidelines.
Little Dot Studios’ Covid-19 secure productions in lockdown have included History Hit Live on Timeline with Dan Snow, and Jimmy Carr’s Little Tiny Quiz of the Lockdown.
